Heatwave Policy for Early Years Settings, Schools and Childminders (2025)

Heatwave Policy – A policy to be used in Early Years detailing specific processes around a heatwave. This is editable for your school or setting.
This Heatwave Policy outlines the measures and procedures our setting implements to protect children, staff, and visitors during periods of extreme heat. It covers guidelines for hydration, sun protection, indoor and outdoor temperature management, activity adjustments, and staff responsibilities. The policy ensures compliance with health and safety regulations by minimising heat-related risks such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and sunburn. Through proactive planning, monitoring weather alerts, and clear communication with parents and carers, we maintain a safe, comfortable environment that supports wellbeing during hot weather conditions.
