Fine Motor Skills Assessment Individual

Individual Fine Motor Skills Assessment
This assessment is designed to evaluate a child’s development in fine motor skills, which are essential for tasks requiring hand-eye coordination, precision, and control. Fine motor development supports a range of key learning activities, including writing, cutting, drawing, and self-care tasks like fastening buttons or using cutlery.
The assessment is carried out on a one-to-one basis to ensure accurate observation and tailored support. It includes a variety of short, engaging tasks that assess the following areas:
-
Hand strength and grip (e.g., squeezing, using tweezers, manipulating playdough)
-
Pencil control and pre-writing shapes (e.g., drawing lines, circles, patterns)
-
Hand–eye coordination (e.g., threading beads, completing pegboards)
-
Bilateral coordination (e.g., using both hands to complete tasks such as cutting)
-
Dexterity and finger isolation (e.g., finger tapping, picking up small objects)
Observations focus on the child’s ability to complete tasks independently or with support, their level of concentration, and the quality and accuracy of movements. Findings are used to inform next steps in planning and to provide targeted support or interventions if needed.
The assessment can be repeated periodically to monitor progress and guide further development.
