Missing Child Policy for Early Years Settings and Schools (2025)

Missing Child Policy – A policy to be used in Early Years detailing specific processes for dealing with the unlikely event of a missing child. This is editable for your school or setting.
Our Missing Child Policy is designed to ensure the safety and security of every child in our care. It sets out clear procedures for staff to follow if a child is discovered to be missing while at the setting or during an outing. The policy prioritizes swift action, including immediate searches, notifying parents and authorities, and maintaining a secure environment to prevent further risk. We are committed to preventing incidents through careful supervision, secure premises, and maintaining accurate attendance records. In the unlikely event of a child going missing, our staff are trained to respond calmly and efficiently, ensuring the child’s safe return and supporting families throughout the process.
